He was the cofounder and the deputy editor in chief of the now defunct Amharic current affair weekly newspaper, Addis Neger, in Ethiopia. When the government shut the newspaper he fled to Uganda. Since 2010 is living in exile. In 2011/12 academic years, he named the John S. Knight Journalism fellow at Stanford University. He was exploring on the mechanism how to make exile media sustainable and relevant to their first country. After the fellowship year he back to Uganda to finish his book project.
In February 2013 he published his First collection of poetry entitled “the Quest for the Lost City”. In August 2014 he published his debut novel Self Meda (translated as “Field of Queue) in Addis Ababa. He is working on his second novel. Now he is the Guest writer at the city of Ljubljana.
